Animal Medicines Australia (AMA) welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement of a new funding arrangement for the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), recognising the essential publicgood role the regulator plays in protecting animal health, biosecurity and the wider community.

“AMA welcomes the government’s commitment to public funding for the APVMA, with $3.2 million provided annually for the APVMA’s permit programs. This is a clear recognition that the regulator performs vital activities that benefit animal health, veterinary practice, food production, biosecurity and the broader Australian community.

“The APVMA’s role goes well beyond individual product assessments. Its work underpins trust in Australia’s regulatory system, supports market access, and ensures the availability of safe and effective veterinary medicines for animals in Australia.” CEO of Animal Medicines Australia, Mr Stapley said.

AMA will continue to engage with government and stakeholders to ensure the final funding model strengthens the APVMA while supporting industry, veterinarians, farmers and animal owners who rely on timely access to safe and effective animal medicines.
