Celebrating World Veterinary Day 2025: Animal Health Takes a Team

Canberra, ACT – Animal Medicines Australia (AMA) is proud to join the global veterinary community in recognising World Veterinary Day on Saturday 26 April 2025, celebrating the theme “Animal Health Takes a Team.”

This year’s theme, set by the World Veterinary Association (WVA), highlights the essential collaboration that underpins high-quality veterinary care. From veterinarians and veterinary nurses to technicians, researchers, and allied animal health professionals, it takes a united team to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Australia’s animals.

“Veterinary care is not an individual effort – it’s a multidisciplinary partnership,” said AMA Executive Director, Ben Stapley. “World Veterinary Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the many professionals whose expertise and teamwork support the health of animals across the country, from companion animals to livestock on farms.”

AMA recognises the vital contributions of those working behind the scenes – including pharmaceutical developers, regulatory experts, educators, and animal carers who help ensure animals receive safe, effective, and timely medical care.

In a time of increasing demand for veterinary services and growing awareness of the human-animal bond, this year’s theme is a timely reminder of the importance of collaboration in tackling emerging health challenges, supporting animal welfare, and protecting public health through a One Health approach.

AMA’s election priorities include government incentives to support veterinary work in regional and rural Australia. These proposals form part of a broader strategy to strengthen the veterinary workforce and ensure the delivery of high-quality animal health services in these areas. AMA is also asking the next government to develop and implement a mechanism that allows for consistent secure payment for veterinary services delivered in natural disasters and to unowned animals, including wildlife.

“The food supply chain is a major employer across regional, rural, and remote Australia, encompassing a highly diverse range of industries, locations, and workforce requirements. Protecting and improving the health of animals, people, and our communities is central to the veterinary profession and the animal health industry more broadly. It is more important than ever for governments to recognise and support this critical role,” said Mr. Stapley.

Animal Medicines Australia encourages all Australians to celebrate the veterinary professionals in their lives, and to recognise the dedication, skill and teamwork that keep our animals healthy.
