Animal Medicines Australia

Protecting animal health, promoting animal welfare

Animal Medicines Australia Ltd (AMA) is the industry body representing the animal health industry in Australia.

Our member companies are the innovators, manufacturers, formulators and registrants of veterinary medicines that prevent, control and treat disease across the companion animal, livestock and equine sectors.

In the livestock sector, member company products are improving agricultural production and profitability while delivering improved environmental, health, safety and animal welfare outcomes.

In the companion animal sector, veterinary medicines protect our pets’ health and promote rewarding and healthy pet ownership.

We work with industry organisations, governments, regulators and other stakeholders to promote an evidence-based approach to public policy and better health and welfare outcomes for animals in our care through better animal health.

Leading the way in animal health

AMA has played a key role in shaping the regulatory environment for animal health products, working closely with government, industry stakeholders, veterinarians and others, to ensure access to safe and effective treatments for livestock, companion animals, and wildlife. AMA also promotes responsible pet ownership, biosecurity, and innovation in animal healthcare.

AMA has evolved to become a trusted voice in animal health policy, providing research-driven insights and industry expertise to influence decision-making at both national and international levels.

Pets in Australia: A national survey of pets and people

I think I would be much worse off without my pets. They bring me laughter and joy. They need me and love me. I think I would be depressed and unhappy and less capable of looking after myself if it weren't for my pets.

Cat and dog owner New South Wales

Pets have been a source of companionship and support through thick and thin. They are funny characters that greatly enrich life with their love.

My dog needs walking, and it motivates me every day to walk in the morning and afternoon. Healthy for him and myself. He makes me laugh and is a great companion.
