Animal Medicines Australia welcomes new Minister for Agriculture

Australia’s peak industry body representing the leaders of the animal health industry in Australia, Animal Medicines Australia (AMA) acknowledges and congratulates the new Government frontbench announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

AMA welcomes the appointment of the Hon Julie Collins as the Federal Minister for Agriculture. Tasmanian MP Julie Collins has a solid understanding of the issues facing the agriculture sector through her experience as Labor’s Spokesperson for Agriculture prior to the last election.  Animal Medicines Australia also acknowledges outgoing Minister Murray Watt for his dedication to the agriculture sector, particularly in strengthening Australia’s biosecurity system and championing sustainability in agriculture.

Animal Medicines Australia CEO Mr Ben Stapley welcomed Minister Collins’ appointment.

“The agriculture portfolio is key to Australia’s economic prosperity, food security, energy and climate policies. AMA member companies are the innovators, manufacturers, formulators and registrants of a broad range of veterinary medicine products that prevent, control and cure disease across the companion animal, livestock and equine sectors.

“A changing climate and significant global social and economic challenges have changed the way people, animals and our environment interact over the past decade. We look forward to working collaboratively with Minister Collins to deliver effective policies that support industry and promote animal health and welfare.” said Mr Stapley.

The AMA also congratulates Senator Anthony Chisholm, named the new Assistant Minster for Agriculture. Senator Chisholm has displayed a genuine interest in agriculture during his political career and has engaged enthusiastically with the sector.

AMA and its members have a long-standing commitment to an animal health industry that is responsible and sustainable. Our members’ products are essential tools that can help meet economic, environmental and social challenges. We look forward to working with Minister Collins and Senator Chisholm to improve animal health outcomes across the livestock, equine and companion animal sector.
