Animal Medicines Australia (AMA), the peak industry body representing the animal medicine sector, welcomes the Albanese Government’s announcement of $13 million in funding to support access to effective and safe veterinary medicines and animal health products.
AMA Executive Director, Mr Ben Stapley welcomed the announcement.
“This is a good first step in securing a sustainable funding model for the APVMA. AMA welcomes Minister Collins’ announcement of additional funding for the APVMA while it seeks to establish a sustainable model for its operations.
“APVMA is a critical regulator that supports the health and welfare of Australia’s pets, livestock, horses and other animals under human care. Regular, meaningful engagement with the regulated industry will be critical to positive outcomes in the future.” said Mr Stapley.
“While we welcome this commitment, more still needs to be done to support improved post-market monitoring compliance and enforcement systems.” said Mr Stapley.
AMA’s election priorities call for a re-commitment to best practice regulation in animal health to protect regulatory rigour, including $8 million over five years for the APVMA post-market monitoring, compliance and enforcement activities.
