In 2019, the global animal health industry set 25 Commitments to help reduce the need to use antibiotics in animals by 2025. The Roadmap to Reducing the Need for Antibiotics outlines the animal health sector’s strategy for meeting this goal, through better prevention, detection and treatment of animal diseases.
In World AMR Awareness Week 2023, HealthforAnimals published the second Roadmap Progress Report – highlighting that all goals are either on track or ahead of schedule for completion.
The Progress Report shows that the animal health sector is taking clear, measurable action to promote responsible use and manage antimicrobial resistance in animals.
Key results include:
- $6.3 billion invested in research and development
- 71 new vaccines brought to market
- 28 new diagnostic tools brought to market
- 9 million users trained in responsible use
- More than $25 million provided in veterinary scholarships and research grants
- 93 new scientific publications that improve our understanding of disease and AMR
